Tour Quality Chipping Tips

If you want chipping tips that will help you chip like the pro's then look no further than what's on this page.

To learn how to chip these are the steps below:

chipping setup

  • Setup with a narrow stance with your upper center(shirt button) stacked over your belt, key here is to have no tilt to the right for a right handed golfer
  • Weight is distributed with 60 percent of weight on the left leg and 40 percent on the right
  • Ball placement is located in middle of stance or a ball or two further back

chip shot backswing

  • Next is to practice with your hands moving along an imaginary tilted hula hoop

  • Once you have this feel, you will then simultaneously bend the right elbow while taking backstroke and keep the hands moving along the tilted hula hoop
  • The left arm should stay straight or slightly bent during back swing

chip shot impact

  • On the down swing left arm stays straight and then at impact the left elbow will start to bend slightly
  • The left elbow bending allows the impact to be crisp and prevent the shot from being hit fat

chipping golf

  • Be sure to keep hands going around circle to where your hands will finish resting beside your left hip pocket
  • Finally, make sure you do not allow the shaft to go past the hands

To be able to execute this chip shot like the pro's you are going to have to focus on the importance of the left arm bending at impact.

This bending motion is evident in a lot of tour player's chipping techniques.

The following pictures will demonstrate:

If the left arm remains straight through impact your chances of hitting a chunk shot just multiplied. Vice versa if your left arm bends too quickly before impact your chances of hitting the ball thin will be increased.

In addition to chipping tips, having the correct amount of bounce on your wedges is an important aspect to great wedge play. The correct bounce on your wedges is crucial when determining which wedge to use from certain lies.

To learn more check out the Wedge Bounce for more information as to how it can benefit your short game by knowing the correct bounce to use for a variety of shots.

If you need help with establishing a practice routine for your chipping then please check out chipping practice for creative ways to sharpen your short game.

Also, be sure check out the bump and run on determining how to play your chips as well as the pitch shot to help you decide what situations to the shots.

Hopefully these chipping tips will elevate your scoring game by having more 1 putts or even hole outs.

Testimonials:

Bo, I wanted to thank you for your help so far with my golf game. I wanted to let you know that I shot a 75 the other day in a tournament round, my best round ever. I had 32 total putts and NO 3 putts. I definitely couldn't have done that before. Thanks again and I'll be back in touch soon to get some more lessons lined up.
